Alternatively take a look at the Goddard Space Flight Center's SkyView site, which includes the DSS and several other surveys here.
If you can't get the images from DSS, I've got 8'x8' copies here:
The following may be more useful. They're 18'x18' pseudo-color images from Goddard's SkyView site. These have a logarithmic stretch and a range of colors to help you see faint outer structures. (The images for NGC 3031 and 5457 are 30'x30'.)
The data for the three clusters in problem 1 are available here without any html formatting nonsense.
If you want to generate your own H-R diagram, you can get the data for nearby stars from the Gliese catalog. (Note that many of these data have been derived from more basic measurements in the original catalog.)
